In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. This year, National Police Week is May 13 through May 19. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events honoring those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Montgomery officers will participate in both local and regional events honoring and remembering officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty during the previous year. Montgomery will be represented at the memorial events at the Police Memorial located at the Ohio Police Officer’s Training Academy in London, Ohio, as well as in downtown Cincinnati at Fountain Square and the Cincinnati Police Memorial.
Please take a moment to honor these local police officers for their sacrifices in protecting everyone’s safety and security.
