The finance department is responsible for all areas of financial administration, including budgeting, cash management, accounting, purchasing, income tax and financial reporting. The finance department earned a bond rating of Aaa through Moody’s Investors Service in May 2010. According to Moody’s Investors Service, this rating was earned as a result of the “City’s affluent socio-economic profile, sizable and mature tax base, sound financial operations, and moderate debt level”.
In addition, the City of Montgomery to received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting since 1996. This award, earned by less than 10% of the nation’s municipalities, demonstrates a constructive spirit of financial disclosure to the community.
