Raising backyard hens has become popular in urban and suburban settings. It can be a lot of fun, especially if you have children, and raising your own hens ensures that your eggs are fresh and chemical free. The City of Montgomery allows the keeping of backyard hens and rabbits as long as the following conditions are met:
- Residents can have no more than six hens at one time.
- Roosters are not permitted.
- Chickens and rabbits must be contained in an enclosure that can be no closer than 15 feet from the nearest property line.
- A must be obtained before constructing an enclosure for chickens or rabbits.
