City adds curbside textile recycling
- Men, women and children’s clothing
- Coats and jackets
- Purses and backpacks
- Drapes and curtains
- Pots and pans
- Sleeping bags
- Small Appliances – toasters, microwaves, coffee makers, etc.
- Small furniture
Please make sure all items are clean and dry. Place donated items into the specially-marked Simple Recycling orange bags. Items may also be placed in other weatherproof plastic bags that are clearly marked “Simple Recycling”. Items that are too large for the bag, but small enough for one person to lift, may be placed to the curb with a Simple Recycling tag affixed. To get more orange bags or tags, contact Simple Recycling directly by either calling 866-835-5068 or clicking here to send an email. Please place your orange bags or appropriately tagged items on the curb, NEXT TO your green recycling cart, on your regular recycling collection day. Simple Recycling has a special truck that will come to collect your clothing and housewares on your recycling day. After collection, Simple Recycling will leave behind replacement bags for future use. They have until 4:00 p.m. on your service day to collect the materials. If they miss the pickup, please contact them directly by either calling 866-835-5068 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The following items WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR PICK UP BY SIMPLE RECYCLING:
- Large appliances
- Large furniture
- Hazardous waste
- Traditional recyclables such as metal, glass and paper
According to the EPA, only 15 percent of clothing is donated or recycled when a curbside program is not offered, which means 85% of the items end up in the landfill.
