The City of Montgomery recreation department offers a wide variety of opportunities for the development of skills for youth. With a variety of topics, we are sure to have a program that will pique the interest of your child.

Parks and Recreation Explorer Programs

Montgomery Park Explorer

The Montgomery Park Explorer Program encourages individuals 2 and up to get out and explore Montgomery’s parks. The program includes workbooks for ages 2 to 5 and ages 6 and up. The workbooks provide parents a variety of activities that will engage children in learning about local Montgomery parks in a fun and active way.

Workbooks include a map of the city, as well as the physical address to each location to help find park locations. Workbooks are available online at montgomeryohio.org and at City Hall. Participants can turn in the completed workbooks any time, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Montgomery City Hall. Completed workbooks will be given back you to keep with a certificate and patch. Patches and certificates will be awarded and details of this will be communicated to the participants during the follow-up.

Montgomery Tree Explorer

Tree Explorer Patch

Enjoy the new Montgomery Tree Explorer program together as a family. This free program includes workbooks for ages 2 to 5 and ages 6 and up. The workbooks provide participants with a variety of activities that will engage them in learning about local Montgomery trees in a fun and active way.

Workbooks include a map of the city, as well as the physical address for each park where the trees are located. Workbooks will be available online at montgomeryohio.org and City Hall starting Aug. 15. Once completed, participants can turn in the workbooks any time, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Montgomery City Hall, 10101 Montgomery Road.

A member of the City recreation team will review the workbook and follow up with the participant. Completed workbooks will be given back to the participant to keep along with a certificate and patch. Patches and certificates will be awarded, and details of this will be communicated to the participants during the follow-up.

NEW - Summer Recreation To Go

Recreation to Go LogoWant to have some creative and fun activities to do at home this summer? Recreation To Go provides a complete kit with boredom busters that will keep the kids entertained at home!
Each Rec To Go kit is $5 and will include 2-3 activities per theme for ages 6 and up.

2020 Youth Camps

Junior Golf Camp

This four-day camp is for golfers 7-17 with little-to-no golf experience. Participants have fun while learning the basic fundamentals of golf, including swing techniques for a variety of shots, course management, rules and etiquette. This is a great opportunity to see if your child sparks an interest in the game. Classes are 75 minutes.

Board Game Development Camp

Participants will use the latest technology and software to develop their own board game, as well as design and print their own 3D game pieces. Participants will then utilize the Makey Makey Technology to turn their game pieces and boards into touch pads and combine them with the internet to enhance the game. At the end of camp, participants will take home their game board, 3D printed game pieces, and the Makey Makey Go Technology to be able to interact with their game at home. Themes for the camp include Mario Kart, Pokemon, and Athletic Sports.

This camp will occur Monday – Friday, June 15-19, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Swaim Lodge in Swaim Park. This camp is for ages 8-14 and the cost is $225 per participant.

Camp is taught by iDaP Academy.

A fee of $25 will be assessed for all participant cancellations that occur 7 calendar days prior to and after the start of a program or class. All refunds for classes and programs must be approved by Recreation Staff.

Roblox Modification Camp

Participants will use the latest technology and software to create modifications for the Roblox game.
Using ROBLOX Studio:

  • Campers will be able to create anything and release it with one click to all devices, consoles and systems.
  • Campers will also modify their avatars and creating objects to add to games.

Camp is taught by iDap Academy

Camp Details:

  • Ages 8-12
  • AM Session – 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • PM Session – 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Art Creation Camp

Throughout this fun camp participants will learn multiple different art types. Each day students will explore different mediums of art as each day will have a different theme.  The instructor will engage with students through interactive demonstration and sensory learning.

Monday – Creative Stations (projects include painting, scratch art, puppet making, and imagination drawing)

Tuesday – Junk Sculptures (participants will be given a variety of recyclable objects that they must turn into a sculpture)

Wednesday – Canvas Painting (participants will be doing an instructional painting guided by the instructor step-by-step on a 16 X 20 canvas. Students will learn about their brushes, mixing color, and traditional brush stroke techniques. The painting inspiration will be nature-themed. Level 1 beginning painting.)

Thursday – Marble Art Painting (participants will have fun learning how to marble paper and other paper based projects)

Friday – Creative Stations (projects include jewelry, crafts, and wood painting)

Monday-Friday, July 13-17

  • Ages 6-8
  • Session 1 – 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.
  • Session 2 – 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
  • Location: Swaim Lodge
  • Cost: $125 per participant

Camp is taught by an I.C.I. Studio artist.

Lego Robotics Camp

Participants will use age appropriate technology, software and equipment to build functional Lego Robots. This camp will provide participants a fun introduction to Lego Robotics. All participants must have basic letter and number recognition abilities. Camp is taught by iDaP Academy.
