Memorial Day concert signals start of summer
The Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual Memorial Day Concert at the Blue Ash Towne Square on Monday, May 26, at 6 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. In the event of rain, the concert will be performed at the Sycamore Junior High School Auditorium, 5757 Cooper Road in Montgomery.
Beginning with Wagner’s rousing Prelude to Die Meistersinger, the Orchestra presents violinist Kaori Matsui, Sycamore High School sophomore and first place winner of the 2007 BAMSO Young Artist Competition in the Strings Category, who will perform the third movement of Saint-Saens Concerto No. 3 for Violin and Orchestra in B minor. The Orchestra will also perform selections from Tchaikovsky’s beloved Symphony No. 5, plus a moving tribute, Memorial by Rene Clausen, dedicated to the victims of the tragic events of September 11, 2001 featuring the Cincinnati Choral Society, conducted by Dr. Douglas Belland.
As is tradition, the Blue Ash Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dale Swisher, will also perform. The Youth Orchestra’s Principal Flutist, Katie Kuvin, is the featured soloist in the Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto in C Major, RV 443. The Youth Orchestra will also perform selections from Porgy and Bess by Gershwin and other concert favorites.
The orchestra is supported by funding from the City of Montgomery, the City of Blue Ash, the Fine Arts Fund, the William O. Purdy, Jr. Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council, as well as funding from individual contributors.
