Club demolition to be environmentally friendly

When the City razes the former Montgomery Business Club building between July 6 - 17, the work will not be an historically typical demolition. Removal of the building will be much more environmentally friendly than collapsing the structure and hauling away the debris.

A reimbursement grant through the Hamilton County Development Company will enable the Cincinnati-based non-profit organization Building Value LLC to remove all reusable items from the building prior to demolition in a process known as "deconstruction."  Building Value LLC will remove salvageable components and recondition them for reuse, diverting them from area landfills.

After the reusable items have been removed from the building, Brunk Excavating Inc. will complete the demolition project. All ferrous metals, concrete slabs and block walls will be taken to area recyclers, again minimizing the amount of debris placed in area landfills.

Just as a community’s curbside recycling effort minimizes materials going to a landfill, deconstruction and responsible demolition efforts extend the life of dwindling landfill space.
