Take the Energy Challenge! How low can you go?
Humans are consuming fossil fuels faster than ever. To encourage conservation of fossil fuels the City is sponsoring an Energy Challenge for residents in which residents can track their home energy usage.
Participants must complete the application form. Participants will receive the guidelines, which include how to get your energy consumption history. Comparisons among challengers will be made based on submitted 2007 and 2008 gas and electric consumption histories.
The City will help by providing you with an Energy Savers booklet, a listing of environmental links on the City’s Web page and periodic articles in the City’s Bulletin.
A home energy evaluation will help evaluate where savings can be made. Duke Energy is offering free in-home evaluations for Ohio customers purchasing their electricity from Duke. Contact www.Duke-energy.com
or call 1-877-388-7676. Customers of other providers can visit www.resnet.us
to find listings of local certified and non-certified energy raters.
The Ohio Solar Tour, on October 5 and 6, is another resource for challengers. The free self-guided tour of local homes and public facilities with energy saving features beyond just solar power provides participants an opportunity to ask questions about what it is like to install and live with various green products. More details: www.greenenergyohio.org
.
Residents completing the Energy Challenge will receive a certificate and a small prize. Those participants with the greatest reduction will have the opportunity to share their experience with other residents through the Bulletin and website.
