This spring the Hamilton County Solid Waste District will move around to different communities throughout the county and offer an hour‐long evening seminar focusing on the basics of backyard composting. You will learn how to balance a compost bin, what materials are compostable, and some troubleshooting. There will also be time to answer your composting questions.

Free CPR class, March 19

Would you know what to do if someone you loved started choking, stopped breathing, or went into cardiac arrest? The City of Montgomery will offer residents a free introductory course on CPR at the Safety Center on Monday, December 20 from 7 to 10 p.m. Entitled “CPR for Family & Friends,” the class is approved by the American Heart Association without the need for a practical or written test. To reserve a spot in the class, call the Montgomery Fire Department at 985-1633.

Free Cooking Class, March 15

A March 15 cooking class will demonstrate ways to reduce energy use and waste in the home kitchen. Presented by the Montgomery Environmental Advisory Commission, the free class will feature Dietitian Kelli Hinn, a UC research associate and kitchen gardener. Ms. Hinn will focus on cost saving techniques and tips and flexible recipes that each student can take away and use immediately.

Kemper Road Improvements Open House

Preliminary plans for the Kemper Road Improvement Project will be featured during a March 12 open house in Council Chambers at City Hall. The open house is planned from 2-8 p.m. so that residents and business owners can review preliminary plans for the project, which is included in the City’s 2012 Capital Improvement Program.
