Municipal Pool FAQ
Who are the managers and what are their responsibilities?
The pool management has been contracted by the City of Montgomery with a local management company, Cincinnati Pool Managemen who are the managers and what are their responsibilities. The pool manager is Noah Randall. Heather Weymoth is the assistant pool manager. The responsibility of managing the pool alternates between these these managers throughout the week and they communicate with each other daily. Any one of these people are willing to assist with any pool concerns or issues with the day–to-day operation of the pool and staff. It is the manager’s responsibility to oversee the operations of the front desk, ID production, swim lessons, water quality, guard staffing, cleanliness of the facility, stocking of the concession stand and concerns of the pool membership or patrons.
Why are ID cards checked at the front desk?
The ID cards for pool members are being checked at the front desk in order to control access to the pool and assure that current members get the full value of their membership and that guests are paying for entry.
How often are the restrooms checked?
The restrooms are scheduled to be checked for cleanliness by staff on a 20 minute rotation. The staff is to pick up any litter on the floors, flush the toilets, check the paper stock in each stall, make sure the showers and sinks are clean and then sign off that these areas have been checked and are cleaned. We had the toilet flushers changed over to handles instead of buttons this year to make them easier for kids to flush and new toilets installed for easier maintenance.
The showers are still and issue with pressure but we did have the pressure tested by Hamilton County and we are where we should be to meet standards and regulations. We also replaced the valves within the pipes to allow the water to flow more steadily. We still have problems with consistent pressure if the showers in both the men’s and women’s are in use and we apologize for this inconvenience and ask for your cooperation and patience with this.
If there should be an incident that occurs in the restrooms that needs immediate attention, please contact the pool manager and they will respond with the appropriate care for that issue. If a piece of equipment is in need of repair, contact the pool manager so we may contact the appropriate party to make the necessary repairs within a reasonable time frame.
Why are there not more concession workers?
The concession stand is always staffed by one person. This is based on our revenue to expense ratio for sales and stocking of the concession stand. In order to continue to keep costs down on the items we sell, we look at the numbers served and the costs that drive the staffing in the concession stand. Usually, the customer load demands one server with the exception of days over 90°F and holiday weekends when the pool load it much higher. For these high demand situations, a manager or a guard staff familiar with the concessions is asked to assist in the service to keep lines down whenever possible. The beginning of the season is when this is most difficult to do because of the other demands on staff with photo ID’s and the learning curve of the staff.
Several changes have been made within the concession stand to help with customer service through the relocation of items closer to the front window. Also, menu items and equipment has changed to up the variety of food for dinner items (metts, burgers, brats, chili dogs and pizza) and the healthy choices with granola bars, sunchips, fruit snacks, crustables and frozen gogurt. A new cash register system is also in place to limit the number of options the concession staff has to work with and hopefully speed up each transaction.
The time during adult swim is always when the line for the concessions gets longer and service is delayed with kids trying to make choices and see what they can get for their money. It is best to avoid this 15 minutes if you wish to get in and out of the concessions with faster service.
When are adult swims called?
Adult swims are called at 1:45pm, 2:45pm, 3:45pm and 4:45pm daily. This is to allow the adults, 18 and up, a chance to swim calmly with out splashing. Also, adult swim requires the children to take a break from swimming and rebuild their energy. This is a safety precaution that prevents many pool incidents from over tired swimmers from occurring. Also, this gives some of the guards a needed break to rest their eyes and get out of the heat for a few minutes thus increasing their attentiveness while on duty and with a high bather load. * Additional adult swims at 12:45pm and 5:45pm may be called if the bather load of the pool exceeds 250 swimmers. This is at the discretion of the pool manager on duty.
When is the slide open?
The pool slide is open from 11am to 8pm whenever a guard is on duty and assigned to the slide. The slide can be used by one rider at a time in a seated position or lying down with feet first. The rider must be at least 48” tall and able to swim 25 yards. All riders must exit the water immediately after use to prevent injury to yourself or others.
When are the lap lanes available and for whom?
At the request of several pool members, two lane lines are kept in the pool all day to allow lap swimming for those interested in the exercise. The lane lines are not be used to play in or hang on.
What can the front desk can do for me?
The front desk is staffed from 9am to 8:30pm. The front desk is the control center for membership and class registrations, dissemination of information and all check-in transactions. This includes verification and sale of memberships, punchcards, daily use by members or guests, sign-up for swim lessons, and rental of equipment, gazebo or pool. They also serve as a point of contact for questions about pool use, programming and rules.
What is Swim Team about, why does the pool close for swim team?
The Montgomery Makos Swim Team accommodates a team of 120 members ages 4 to 17. Participation requires attendance at daily practices for one-hour between 8:30am and 11am, Monday through Friday. Also, attendance at 3 of 5 meets, volunteer hours from parents for practices and meets, and the purchase of needed team equipment such as team suit, goggles and swim cap are a necessary part in swim team participation.
This is a great opportunity for youth to become stronger swimmers, make friends and have FUN! This team is focused on developing youth into team players, each making a contribution towards the goal and success of the whole team. Although competition is an element in any sport, the goal of the Montgomery Makos is self-improvement of each of it's members, not on competitive marks and records. Participants must be able to swim 25 meters freestyle, submerge, feel comfortable in deep water and be a current member of the municipal pool. Makos families make up about 20% of our pool membership. The team will be staffed by 2 full-time coaches, 2 part-time coaches as well as an adequate number of lifeguards on duty for all team practice and home meets.
The Montgomery Makos are part of the Tri-County Swim League. The league requires that the team host 3 or 4 home meets at the Montgomery Municipal pool as well as participate in 2 or 3 additional away meets. The league determines the schedule for these meets in early March. The league generally holds all meets on Tuesday evenings but they make an exception for Montgomery because of the conflict with Court held at the Safety center and the parking issue. Therefore, Montgomery Mako meets are on Wednesday or Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings based on the availability of the guest team. The pool closes at 4:30 on evening meet dates or until noon on Saturday dates to allow for setup at the pool (dates posted at entry bulletin board). Even though the team only utilizes the lap swimming area at the pool, the complex is closed to patrons because of the parking limitations of the facility. We will post the scheduled dates for closure at the beginning of the season on the bulletin, restroom walls, and the city website for your information in planning use of the pool.
Where do I sign up and what should I expect from Swim Lessons?
Swim lessons at the Montgomery Pool are setup in a graduated tier system with the swimmer being able to progress between level1 introductory course to level 5 stroke refinement courses throughout 4 sessions in the summer. Each session runs for eight half-hour lessons with an instructor over a two week period. Classes are scheduled for Monday through Thursday with Fridays reserved as a make-up date. Lessons are cancelled due to inclimate weather or when in conflict with a swim meet and participants are contacted by the instructor if this is the case. Each class is limited to six participants so that the level of personal attention by the instructor can be optimal. Registration for lessons is done at the front desk of the pool. Lessons cost $30 for members and $45 for non-members.
