An excellent example of early saltbox architecture is represented in the Weller House. This form of architecture got its name from salt boxes that used to sit on iron kitchen stoves. The house was first owned by Lodowich Weller, one of the original founders of Montgomery. The Weller House is thought to be one of the oldest existing structures in Montgomery. It remained a private residence until 1973.
