The Johnson Nature Preserve app provides audio presentations, text and pictures on the many animals, plants and trees native to this park. There is also a story on the history of the park starting back when this area was the hunting grounds of the Miami and Shawnee tribes. Perfect for scout troops, science and nature class field trips and just a day in the park, this app expands the educational experience of Johnson Nature Preserve.
Swaim Playground Upgrade

One of the recommendations from the 2008 Park Master Plan Study was to keep playground equipment updated, safe and fun for the kids throughout Montgomery’s park system. In accordance with the recommendation, Swaim Park will be receiving new play features.
The existing equipment will remain, but may be relocated to make room for the Coconut Grove structure for ages 5-12, along with the Tilted Sky runner and the Centrix seat spin around, also recommended for the 5-12 age group. Safe zones will also be extended around the existing equipment along with the removal of some obstacles to enhance the recommended safe zones.
Installation will begin soon with a completed date of June 1 expected, weather permitting.

Park restrooms remain open through winter months
Do you still walk your dog in the winter or run year-round? Park restrooms will remain open through out this cold winter season. Keeping the restrooms open is the direct result of citizen feedback to the question “what are some of the most important issues you would like to see happen in our parks?”. Heating park restrooms all winter was of high importance to respondents. Dulle Park restrooms have always been heated. Swaim restrooms were heated in 2009. Weller Park restrooms near the playground and Pioneer park restrooms will remain open starting this year. Work is planned at Montgomery Park to heat restrooms so they also can remain open beginning the winter of 2011-2012. Preparing restrooms to remain open during frigid weather was a significant task. Restrooms, except those in Dulle Park, were originally built with the plumbing exposed to the freezing temperatures. Upgrades were needed to ensure that facilities will remain at temperatures of about 55 degrees.
Triangle Point Plaza: the newest park
Montgomery residents pass Triangle Point Plaza every day. As the City’s newest park, the location commemorates and exemplifies nearly a decade of strategic planning. The area greets visitors as they enter the historic Heritage District and it signifies a staple of the City’s history, the sycamore tree.
Triangle Point Plaza was the finishing touch to a project that was conceived with Montgomery’s first strategic plan in 2001. With that plan, the City hoped to continue to ensure that Montgomery residents maintain a high quality of life and pride in their City and heritage. In 2002, Montgomery purchased the Triangle Property at the Southeast corner of Montgomery and Cooper Roads and began making plans to redevelop the site. The plans culminated in the Montgomery Gateway Center, a 39,000 square foot, mixed use facility in downtown Montgomery. The purpose of the development was to turn an underutilized piece of land into a focal point.
Montgomery Gateway Partners, LLC, and financial support from tax increment financing, the construction of the Gateway Center was completed in 2007. This property added an underground parking facility and several new businesses to the downtown area, including the Woodhouse Day Spa, and the popular Stone Creek Dining Company. The Triangle Point Plaza is located at the southernmost tip of the triangle property. It was one of the final projects in the completion of this long-range planned redevelopment.
Officially opened on November 12, 2007, Triangle Point Plaza is designed as an urban pocket park providing visitors with a place to relax while they travel around Montgomery’s Heritage District and enjoy the many amenities offered by the Gateway Center. The plaza is a gateway showpiece with several places to relax and is accentuated by a tranquil, three tiered water fountain. The fountain was custom-made for Montgomery, and is adorned with sycamore leaves to commemorate Montgomery’s heritage.
